Assistant Chief Scout Executive - Chief Financial Officer

Jim Terry

Jim Terry serves as the Assistant Chief Scout Executive/Chief Financial Officer of the Boy Scouts of America. In this position, he is responsible for operating according to the Rules and Regulations and Bylaws of the Boy Scouts of America. Subject to the authority and direction of the Executive Board and the Chief Scout Executive, he gives leadership and direction to the following groups and departments of the National Council: Administration Group, Human Resources Group, Supply Group, Controller, Legal Counsel, and Audit Services. He also serves as Chief Financial Officer of the organization.

Jim began his Scouting career in 1969 as a district executive in Charlotte, N.C. In 1971, he was promoted to Exploring executive, and in 1972 to Exploring director in the same council. In 1976, he was selected as Scout executive in High Point, N.C. He was named Scout executive in 1980 at the council in Columbus, Ga. Following five years there, he was named Scout executive in Richmond, Va. In 1990, he was named Scout executive in Jacksonville, Fla. In 1994, he was named assistant regional director/operations in the Western Region, where he served until 1999, when he was named Scout executive in Kansas City, Mo. In April 2005, he returned to the National Council as the national director, Administration Group, where he provided leadership to the following divisions: Information Systems, Properties, Treasury, Custom Communications, and Magazines.

Jim received a Bachelor of Science degree from Davidson College in North Carolina. He is active in its alumni association and received the Distinguished Service Award from the college in 1994. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta and Alpha Phi Omega, as well as earning letters in football and baseball.

Jim and his wife, Anne, have two grown children, Melissa and James, and one grandson.
